The Wise Parrot and the Cunning Fox
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a wise and talkative parrot named Mithu. He had bright green feathers, a red beak, and eyes full of curiosity. Mithu was known for his intelligence and could mimic human speech. He lived in a sturdy tree near a river and spent his days chatting with other birds and animals.
One day, a cunning fox named Kalu wandered into the forest. He was always looking for easy prey. Seeing Mithu, he thought, A talking bird must be delicious! But the parrot was too smart to be fooled easily.
Kalu approached the tree and said, “Oh, dear Mithu, I have heard of your wisdom. Can you share some with me?”
Mithu, flattered, replied, “Wisdom comes to those who are honest. What do you seek?”
The fox, pretending to be sad, said, “I am lonely. No one wants to be my friend. Will you come down and chat with me?”
Mithu laughed and said, “Friendship is built on trust, but I have heard of your tricks. You want to eat me, don’t you?”
Kalu pretended to be shocked. “Me? Never! I am a changed fox. I only eat fruits now.”
Mithu smirked and picked a ripe guava from the tree. “Here, have this as proof of your honesty.”
The fox had no choice but to eat it, though he disliked the taste. But he was determined to catch the parrot.
The next day, he brought a fake injury, limping under the tree. “Oh, Mithu, I am hurt. Please come down and help me.”
Mithu saw through the trick. He laughed and said, “A fox never changes his nature. You can’t fool me!”
Kalu, realizing he had been caught again, ran away in shame.
Moral of the story: Wisdom and awareness can save us from deceitful people.
